Stationary RG Flow and Thermodynamics of Conformal Field Theories ∗

چکیده
We argue that one can understand the relationship between critical free-energy densities of theories connected via non-perturbative renormalization group flows, in terms of the the number of fields coupled to the class of different theories which flow into the same stationary renormalization group trajectory. As an explicit example, we study the free-energy density of bosonic and fermionic theories possessing strongly coupled critical points in D = 3. We construct a stationary trajectory which interpolates between the free massless theory of N scalars and a class of interacting theories including both bosons and fermions. The free-energy along this trajectory remains constant, but the degrees of freedom coupled to the underlying theories which flow into it are different. The difference in the degrees of freedom underlying two distinct points of the stationary trajectory, provides a natural explanation for the rational relationship between the critical free-energy densities of the free massless theory of N scalars and the O(N) vector model.

Entanglement Entropy of 3-d Conformal Gauge Theories with Many Flavors
Three-dimensional conformal field theories (CFTs) of deconfined gauge fields coupled to gapless flavors of fermionic and bosonic matter describe quantum critical points of condensed matter systems in two spatial dimensions. An important characteristic of these CFTs is the finite part of the entanglement entropy across a circle. The negative of this quantity is equal to the finite part of the fr...
متن کاملAn Exact Holographic RG Flow Between 2d Conformal Fixed Points
We describe a supersymmetric RG flow between conformal fixed points of a two-dimensional quantum field theory as an analytic domain wall solution of the three-dimensional SO(4)×SO(4) gauged supergravity. Its ultraviolet fixed point is an N=(4, 4) superconformal field theory related, through the double D1-D5 system, to theories modeling the statistical mechanics of black holes. The flow is drive...

We study N = 1 global and local supersymmetric theories with a continuous global U(1)R symmetry. We discuss conditions for supersymmetry (SUSY) breaking and vacuum structures of R-symmetric SUSY models. Especially we find the conditions for R-symmetry breaking and runway vacua in global supersymmetric theories. We introduce explicit R-symmetry breaking terms into such models in global and local...

متن کاملGradient Flow in Logarithmic Conformal Field Theory
We establish conditions under which the worldsheet β-functions of logarithmic conformal field theories can be derived as the gradient of some scalar function on the moduli space of running coupling constants. We derive a renormalization group invariant version of this function and relate it to the usual Zamolodchikov C-function expressed in terms of correlation functions of the worldsheet energ...
